Connect Your AI Reception to Your Existing Phone Number

One of the best things about Central's AI Receptionist, is you can keep your existing phone number! Here are some instructions on how to set up forwarding

Step 1. Identify your current phone setup

  • Mobile phone (US carrier) – e.g., Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.

  • Traditional landline / cable “digital voice” line – e.g., Comcast/Xfinity, Spectrum, Frontier.

  • Cloud/VoIP number – Google Voice, OpenPhone, Dialpad, RingCentral, Zoom Phone, etc.

Keep that in mind and jump to the matching section.

Step 2A. Forwarding from a U.S. mobile carrier

Dial the activation code from the device that owns the number, immediately followed by your new AI Receptionist number, then press Call.

For example, if your carrier is Verizon, here's how you'd do it, if your AI Receptionist's Phone Number is 555-123-4567: *72 555-123-4567 → wait for confirmation tone → hang up.

# Carrier Turn ON Turn OFF Notes
1 Verizon / Visible *72 + number *73 Learn more at Verizon
2 AT&T / FirstNet *72 + number *73 Learn more at AT&T
3 T-Mobile / Metro **21* + number + # ##21# Must include the trailing #
Learn more at T-Mobile
4 US cellular *72 + number *720 Confirmation tones play after you dial
5 Spectrum Mobile *72 + number *73 Same codes as Spectrum landline
6 Xfinity Mobile Use Phone → Settings → Call Forwarding (no star code) Toggle off in settings Xfinity Voice landlines use *72
7 Boost Mobile *72 + number *720
8 Cricket Wireless *72 + number *730
9 Google Fi Set in Fi app or fi.google.com → Phone Settings → Call forwarding Remove number in same menu Star codes are not supported on Google Fi
10 Mint / other T-Mobile Powered Carriers **21* + number# ##21# If it fails, enable via device settings

Test it: call your own number from a different phone; you should hear your AI Receptionist pick up.

Worried? Need to revert quickly? Just enter the “Turn OFF” code as shown above! It'll instantly undo.

Step 2B. Forwarding a US landline (including Comcast, Spectrum, Frontier, etc.)

  1. Pick up the handset, wait for dial-tone.

  2. Dial *72. Wait for the second dial-tone or a confirmation beep.

  3. Enter your AI Receptionist number + # (e.g., 555-123-4567#).

  4. Wait for confirmation tones or the line to ring once, then hang up.

  5. To disable: Dial *73

Step 2C. Forwarding from Cloud/VoIP platforms

Service Where to click
Google Voice Settings → Calls → Custom call forwarding → Add number → Enter AI Receptionist's number
OpenPhone Dashboard → Numbers → Select Number → Call Routing → + Forward Call → Enter AI Receptionist's number
Dialpad Admin Portal → Office → Main Line → Business Hours Routing → Enter AI Receptionist's number
RingCentral / Zoom Phone / 8x8 Admin → Phone System → Auto-Receptionist → Forwarding/Routing → Enter AI Receptionist's number

After saving, place a test call to confirm Central answers.

Quick “Uh-oh, turn it off!” cheatsheet

  • Landline & most carriers: *73

  • Verizon: *73

  • US cellular / Boost: *720

  • Cricket: *730

  • T-Mobile / MVNOs: ##21#

  • Google Fi / VoIP apps: toggle off in the same menu you enabled it.

Step 3. Verify + celebrate! 🥳

Call your original number once more. If you hear Central’s greeting, you’re done!

If not, double-check:

  • You included the area code (and “1” for US long-distance if required).

  • No typos in the destination number.

  • Forwarding tone/confirmation actually played.
